Since 1958 I have been collecting popular hit parade records, until today where we have a vast collection of singles and albums that cover the popular, country and folk music scene since 1952!

 

With the various radio stations that I have worked for in the past, I have also been able to collect a great many hits that today are not available in the shops. If you are a fan of the "golden oldies", maybe I can help you obtain information on the songs you are searching for.

I have over 17,000 records, 78 rpm, 45 rpm, 33 1/3 rpm, super singles, reel to reel tapes, taped radio recordings, cassettes, compact discs and DVD discs with music and video.

It would be a pleasure to share this collection with interested music lovers.

1986 to 31st of AUGUST year 2,000:





This was the last radio station to broadcast in Mallorca in the English Language during 24 hours a day. During 18 years, the team of Riki Lash gave Mallorca the News, music, sports, humor, contests, games, fun and interviews in English. The Germans bought 50% of the station in 1999 and all of it as of the 1st of September year 2,000. It is a funny coincidence that the LAST radio program in English was mine - broadcast from 10 pm to 12 midnight on the 31st of August 2,000. Recordings of that show are available for FREE - you supply the blank cassette!
Tapes of past shows are also available for a modest fee.

For the past 17 years the English language radio station directed by Mr. Riki Lash has been the FIRST English language radio station in Spain. I have had the honour of being a part of that history and enjoy at this moment a show every Thursday NIGHT from 22:00 to 24:00 now on 106.1FM Stereo Sunshine Capital Radio broadcasting live from the Paseo Mallorca nº 32 in downtown Palma.

Until recently, (The month of February 2,000) Sunshine Capital Radio was broadcasting on 95.8FM for over 8 years until the Germnan "Insel Radio" took it over. During those days, the Crystal Sound Barrier could be heard every Thursday morning from 08:00 until 10:00.

The programme is called "The Crystal Sound Barrier" - "A crystal kaleidoscope of sounds that breaks the barrier of time...."

It is thanks to the magic of electronics and the magic of radio that music can "snap" you back to moments in the past you had thought were long forgotten....therefore "...breaking that barrier of time!.."

Here are some pictures of the EARLY DAYS of the English Radio station in Palma De Mallorca. We used to broadcast on different frequecies like 103.2, 106.1, 95.8FM and finally we are on again at 106.1 FM stereo.

RIKI LASH - THE FATHER OF IT ALL! He started out broadcasting from his own BAR in Es JONQUET called "The MOP" - My Own Place. This was the FIRST time in Spain a Radio Station has broadcast live on a remote location.
He then joined up with the "Grupo Serra" Telecommunications magnate Don Pedro Serra, seen here at one of the BIRTHDAY PARTIES celebrating the success of the English Language station:



In the photo ABOVE you can see Miss CRYSTAL ETHERIDGE, she is the VOICE behing the jingle that began with .."...You´re listening to the crystal sound barrier....."!

Here is the popular CAPTAIN PETE during our days on the 103.2 FM frequency in our first studio. Please note that the equipment was far different from what we have now! The mixer, although very functional, hails from the MARCONI days! At least it LOOKS like it does!

Without a doubt, one of the most famous and long time Dee Jays was the pop singer LEAPY LEE of "Little Arrows" fame - which by the way, is enjoying a 1990´s revival! We wish you the very best of luck, Leapy!

Here we have the ever so popular "PRACTICAL PATRIC" and the gentle-voiced "GWEN" (Who LOVES those THORNTON´s chocolates from Detailles in the Porto Pi center!).

My first try at our NEW mixer console and studio - we switched rooms - the old studio became our guest interview studio - Singing Sarah calls it the "HUT".

Our New Studio that was at one time our New Frequency - 95.8 Sunshine Capital Radio. That golden statue on the console was the "Wandering Mermaid" that I brought from a BAR in BC Canada, took pix of it in various places around Palma de Mallorca, and sent it back with the pix to that bar! They now have pix of Palma all over the wall in that hangout in Nanaimo BC Canada!

Here you have a better idea of what our studio looks like! The "HOT SEAT" I´m on has WHEELS so that the DJ´s that follow my show can physically "REMOVE ME" from the studio!

Will somebody tell Donald and Dipstick to get their BUTT in here NOW! We´re on the air!

Since 1999 I have been doing science commentary on ONA RADIO MALLORCA, right up to this day, EVERY TUESDAY at 11:00 to 11:40 AM - With Margarita Noguera, ONA RADIO MALLORCA, 99.2 FM.
ONA RADIO is the CONSELL INSULAR government radio, non commercial, non profit.

1994 - 1998:

Once a week for the past 4 years running, I´ve had the pleasure of joining Sra. Marga Noguera on the ONDA ZERO radio chain (Grupo ONCE) to talk in Spanish about the latest news coming out of NASA and the JPL labs in California. The program is about 15 minutes long and is broadcast in the afternoons. We record 2 shows every 2 weeks.

1973 - 1974:

When living in Germany, for a total of 7 years, from 1960 to 1964 in SOEST WESTFALIEN Germany, and then from 1971 to 1974 in LAHR SCHWARTZWALD and FRANKFURT RHEIN MAINZ what was called then WEST Germany.

The Canadian forces for NATO in Germany had their own radio station, and I was often invited to do evening and night time shows there.

1969 - 1971

CANADA - The Cystal Sound Barrier - CKOV / CJOV RADIO KELOWNA British Columbia Canada:



When I arrived in Kelowna to start a new life, a new job as a Radio Personality on CKOV and CJOV Radio, Kelowna British Columbia Canada, the town had absolutely NOTHING for the young people. No music, no discos, no dance halls, no concerts, no shows.
Once Iwas "plugged in " and organised, working at CKOV, I approached the town hall and finally got permission to organise Rock and Folk festivals for the young ones, I also did things on the radio that shocked a lot of people there - like doing a re-make of Orson Wells "War of the Worlds"...it shook Kelowna big time...the police got calls all night...it was front page news in the VANCOUVER SUN and of course all the towns and cities near Kelowna....great fun! News of my Rock festivals, concerts and the War of the Worlds episode was published in a national Canadian Magazine read all over North America:RPM WEEKLY - Here it is:



Here below is an excellent summary of how ALL the rock and folk concerts went that I had the honour to organise and present. There were absolutely NO problems with drugs, discipline or behaviour...everyone came out to simply ROCK and enjoy the show - 2 days running! This came out the next day in the main local Paper - The Kelowna Daily Courier.



Apart from doing a weekly music article in the Kelowna Daily Courier, I also had a column with the Kelowna Capital News newspaper:



This first picture (below) was taken on the 15th of February 1970. The second photo shows DJ Jaye FATE during a "DJ Popularity Contest" held by the "Star Weekly" Newspaper Magazine.



FROM KELOWNA CKOV RADIO I accepted an offer to work with a chain of stations led by CKOK RADIO in PENTICTON British Columbia Canada in the OKANAGAN VALLEY, 30 minutes south of KELOWNA and CKOV Radio.
CKOK is connected with CKOO and CKGF radio, so my show, called the "TIME MACHINE" - something along the same lines as the "CRISTAL SOUND BARRIER": The FIRST picture below are the studios and my Jag XKE parked there for most of the night, as my work there was from 7 pm to 2 am!



Above is a picture of Vancouver Canada´s most popular folk/pop singer of the late 1960´s and early 70´s TOM NORTHCOTT. His biggest hit was "Girl from the North Country". It was an honour to have him and his wife in the Studios of CKOK radio 1971!

Here below is a cutting from the weekly newspaper articles I wrote each week, giving the kids a rundown of the local and national music scene, publishing our top 10 hits, and promoting local talent. This is from June 1971.


Reading the above article brings you into the pop music scene as it was on Friday, July 20th, 1971, and where the Canadian youth were at in the Okanagan valley town of Penticton British Columbia Canada - look at the songs on the top 10 list...some you know, others are local Canadian artists. The article was published each weekend in the Penticton Herald newspaper, this was the entertainment section and the "B.G.´s Time Machine" news was front page. The column supported the nightly radio show called "The Time Machine" - the name reflecting the fact that with the music I played...we could take you to "yesterday, today and tomorrow..."
